Hungarian Walnut Kifli Cookies (Diós Kifli)

Ingredients:

  • 250 g (2 cups) all-purpose flour
  • 150 g (2/3 cup) unsalted butter, cold, cubed
  • 100 g (1/2 cup) powdered sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tsp vanilla sugar or ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 150 g (1 1/2 cups) ground walnuts
  • Pinch of salt
  • Extra powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions:

  1. Make the dough: In a bowl, combine flour, cold butter, powdered sugar, egg yolk, vanilla, ground walnuts, and salt. Mix until it forms a smooth dough. Chill for 30–60 minutes.
  2. Shape the cookies: Divide dough into small portions. Roll each portion into a small log and bend into a crescent shape (kifli).
  3. Bake: Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 12–15 minutes, until lightly golden.
  4. Cool and dust: Let cookies cool slightly, then dust generously with powdered sugar. Serve once fully cooled.
