Hungarian Creamy Pork Mushroom Paprikás (Sertés Gombapaprikás) 🇭🇺
Ingredients (4 servings)
- 500 g (1 lb) pork (shoulder or tenderloin), cubed
- 250 g (9 oz) mushrooms, sliced
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp oil or lard
- 2 tbsp sweet Hungarian paprika
- 1 tomato, chopped (or 1 tbsp tomato paste)
- 1 green pepper, chopped
- 200 ml (¾ cup) sour cream
- 1 tbsp flour
- ½–1 cup (120–240 ml) water or broth
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley (optional)
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pot and sauté the onion until soft.
- Add garlic and pork cubes, cook until lightly browned.
- Remove pot briefly from heat and stir in paprika.
- Add tomato and green pepper.
- Pour in a little water or broth, cover and simmer 25–30 minutes until pork is tender.
- Add mushrooms and cook another 10 minutes.
- Mix sour cream with flour, then stir into the stew.
- Simmer 5 minutes until sauce becomes creamy and thick.
- Season with salt and pepper.
