Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in lukewarm milk with a little sugar and let it activate for 10 minutes.
  2. Mix flour, sugar, salt, egg, egg yolk, butter, and yeast mixture. Knead into a smooth dough.
  3. Cover and let rise for about 1 hour.
  4. Prepare fillings: cook milk with sugar, then mix with poppy seeds or walnuts until thick. Let cool.
  5. Divide dough into two parts and roll each into a rectangle.
  6. Spread filling evenly and roll tightly into logs.
  7. Place on baking tray and let rest 20 minutes.
  8. Brush with egg yolk (optionally twice for shiny crust).
  9. Bake at 180°C for 30–40 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Let cool completely before slicing.
