Hungarian Christmas Walnut Crescent Cookies (Hókifli) – Don’t Lose This Recipe!

Ingredients:

  • 500 g flour
  • 250 g butter or lard
  • 100 g ground walnuts
  • 100 g powdered sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 packet vanilla sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder (optional)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2–3 tbsp sour cream or milk (if needed)

For coating:

  • Powdered sugar (vanilla optional)

Instructions:

  1. Mix flour, ground walnuts, sugar, vanilla sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Add butter and egg yolks, then knead into a soft dough.
  3. Add a little sour cream if needed for smooth texture.
  4. Let dough rest for 20–30 minutes.
  5. Roll into small crescents (half-moon shapes).
  6. Place on baking tray.
  7. Bake at 180°C for 12–15 minutes until lightly golden.
  8. While still warm, roll in powdered sugar.
  9. Let cool completely and dust again with sugar if needed.
