🇭🇺 Hungarian Fánk (Donuts)

🧾 Ingredients:

  • 500 g all-purpose flour
  • 250 ml milk (lukewarm)
  • 50 g sugar
  • 50 g butter (softened)
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 7 g dry yeast (or 20 g fresh yeast)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt
  • Oil (for frying)

For serving:

  • Powdered sugar
  • Apricot jam

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. Activate yeast:
    Mix yeast with lukewarm milk and a little sugar. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Make the dough:
    In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Add egg yolks, butter, vanilla, and yeast mixture. Knead into a soft dough.
  3. Let it rise:
    Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 1–1.5 hours until doubled in size.

  1. Shape donuts:
    Roll out the dough to about 1–1.5 cm thick.
  2. Cut into circles and make a small indentation in the center.
  3. Let them rest for another 20–30 minutes.

  1. Fry:
    Heat oil and fry donuts for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  2. Remove and drain on paper towels.
