🇭🇺 Traditional Hungarian Pörkölt – Don’t Lose This Recipe!

📝 Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp lard (or oil)
  • 2 large onions, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp sweet Hungarian paprika
  • 500–700 g beef (cubed)
  • 1 tomato (or 1 tbsp tomato paste)
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • Salt and black pepper
  • 1 tsp caraway seeds (optional)
  • 1–2 cups water or beef broth

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Heat lard in a pot and cook onions until soft and golden.
  2. Add garlic, remove from heat, and stir in paprika.
  3. Add beef and mix well.
  4. Cook until meat starts to brown.
  5. Add tomato, pepper, salt, black pepper, and caraway seeds.
  6. Pour in a little water (not fully covering the meat).
  7. Cover and simmer on low for 1.5–2 hours until tender.
  8. Stir occasionally and let the sauce thicken naturally.
