Hungarian Semolina Dumplings (Grízes Nudli / Grízes Gombóc)

Ingredients

  • 500 g potatoes (boiled)
  • 150 g flour
  • 1 egg
  • 120 g semolina
  • pinch of salt
  • 100 g breadcrumbs
  • 50 g butter
  • 3 tbsp sugar

Instructions

  1. Boil potatoes, peel and mash while warm.
  2. Add egg, flour, semolina, and salt. Mix to make a soft dough.
  3. Shape dough into small balls or short dumplings.
  4. Cook in boiling salted water 3–4 minutes until they float.
  5. In a pan melt butter and toast breadcrumbs with sugar until golden.
  6. Roll the cooked dumplings in the toasted breadcrumbs.
  7. Serve warm (optionally with jam or powdered sugar).
