1. Prepare the bread
Soak the bread slices in milk for a few minutes until soft. Squeeze out excess liquid.
2. Make the mixture
In a large bowl, combine:
- ground meat
- soaked bread
- egg
- onion
- garlic
- salt, pepper, paprika, marjoram
Mix well with your hands until everything is evenly combined.
3. Shape the meatballs
Form small or medium-sized balls, then gently flatten them into thick patties (traditional Hungarian style is slightly flattened).
4. Fry
Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
Fry the meatballs for:
- 3–4 minutes per side
until golden brown and cooked through.
Place on paper towels to remove excess oil.

Fasírt are usually served with:
- Mashed potatoes 🥔
- Rice or noodles
- Pickles (very traditional 🇭🇺)
- Fresh cucumber salad (Uborkasaláta) 🥒
- Bread and mustard

✔ Soaked bread makes them softer and juicier
