Zserbó Szelet (Hungarian Gerbeaud Cake)

Ingredients:

Dough:

  • 500 g all-purpose flour
  • 250 g butter, softened
  • 50 g sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 7 g dry yeast
  • 120 ml warm milk
  • Pinch of salt

Filling:

  • 250 g ground walnuts
  • 150–200 g apricot jam
  • 100 g sugar

Chocolate Glaze:

  • 150 g dark chocolate
  • 2 tbsp butter

Instructions:

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm milk and let sit for 5–10 minutes.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add butter, egg, and yeast mixture. Knead into a smooth dough.
  4. Divide dough into 3 equal parts.
  5. Roll out the first layer and place it in a baking tray.
  6. Spread apricot jam over the dough, then sprinkle with walnut-sugar mixture.
  7. Add second dough layer and repeat jam + walnut filling.
  8. Place final dough layer on top.
  9. Let rest for 30 minutes.
  10. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 35–40 minutes until golden.
  11. Cool completely.
  12. Melt chocolate with butter and spread over the top.
  13. Let glaze set, then slice into squares.
