Plum Dumplings (Szilvásgombóc)

Ingredients:

  • 500 g potatoes (boiled, peeled, and mashed)
  • 150–200 g all-purpose flour (as needed)
  • 1 egg
  • Pinch of salt
  • 8–12 plums (pitted)
  • 2–3 tbsp sugar (optional, for filling)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon (optional)

Coating:

  • 100 g breadcrumbs
  • 3–4 tbsp butter or oil
  • Sugar and cinnamon (to taste)

Instructions:

  1. Boil potatoes until soft, then mash and let cool completely.
  2. Mix potatoes with flour, egg, and salt to form a soft dough.
  3. Flatten dough and wrap each plum inside, shaping into dumplings.
  4. Bring a large pot of salted water to a gentle boil.
  5. Cook dumplings until they float (about 5–8 minutes).
  6. In a pan, toast breadcrumbs in butter until golden.
  7. Roll cooked dumplings in the toasted breadcrumbs.
  8. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon if desired.
