Hungarian Túrós Béles (Cottage Cheese Strudel)

Ingredients:

Dough:

  • 500 g flour
  • 1 packet baking powder
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 200 g sour cream
  • 2 eggs
  • 100 g butter or lard
  • 2–3 tbsp sugar

Filling:

  • 500 g cottage cheese (túró)
  • 2–3 eggs
  • 100 g sugar
  • 1 packet vanilla sugar
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 2–3 tbsp semolina or breadcrumbs (optional)
  • A handful of raisins (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Mix flour, baking powder, salt, sour cream, eggs, butter, and sugar into a soft dough.
  2. Divide dough into two parts and roll out.
  3. Mix filling ingredients until creamy.
  4. Place one layer of dough in a baking tray.
  5. Spread cottage cheese filling evenly.
  6. Cover with the second dough layer.
  7. Bake at 180°C for 35–45 minutes until golden.
