Hungarian Potato Dumplings (Krumplis Gombóc)

Ingredients

  • 500 g potatoes
  • 150–200 g all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp butter or oil
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 80 g breadcrumbs
  • 30 g butter (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Boil potatoes until soft, peel and mash.
  2. Let cool slightly, then mix with egg, flour, butter, and salt to form a soft dough.
  3. Shape the dough into small balls (dumplings).
  4. Drop dumplings into boiling salted water and cook 4–5 minutes until they float.
  5. In a pan melt butter and toast breadcrumbs until golden.
  6. Roll the cooked dumplings in the toasted breadcrumbs and serve warm.
