Hungarian Lard Linzer Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg flour
  • 500 g pork lard (zsír)
  • 300 g powdered sugar
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 packet baking powder
  • 1–2 tsp vanilla sugar
  • Zest of 1 lemon (optional)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Apricot or plum jam for filling

Instructions:

  1. Mix flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and vanilla sugar.
  2. Add egg yolks and lard, then knead into a smooth dough.
  3. Let the dough rest for 30–60 minutes.
  4. Roll out and cut into shapes (half with holes, half whole).
  5. Bake at 180°C for 10–12 minutes until lightly golden.
  6. Let cool completely.
  7. Spread jam on whole pieces and sandwich with the tops.
