Hungarian Kiffle Cookies

Ingredients:

Dough:

  • 250 g cream cheese, softened
  • 250 g butter, softened
  • 300 g all-purpose flour
  • Pinch of salt

Filling:

  • 250 g ground walnuts
  • 100 g sugar
  • 2–3 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Apricot jam (optional)

For topping:

  • Powdered sugar

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, mix cream cheese and butter until smooth.
  2. Add flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  3. Wrap the dough and chill for at least 1 hour.
  4. For the filling, combine walnuts, sugar, milk, and vanilla into a thick paste.
  5. Roll the dough out thinly on a floured surface.
  6. Cut into small squares.
  7. Place a small spoonful of walnut filling (or a little jam) in the center.
  8. Fold opposite corners together or roll into crescent shapes.
  9. Place on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  10. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 15–18 minutes until lightly golden.
  11. Cool slightly and dust generously with powdered sugar.
