Hungarian Goulash (One-Pot) 🇭🇺

📝 Ingredients:

  • 500 g (1 lb) beef (chuck or stew meat), cut into cubes
  • 2 tbsp oil or lard
  • 2 large onions, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp Hungarian paprika (sweet)
  • 1 tsp caraway seeds (optional)
  • 2 carrots, sliced
  • 2 potatoes, diced
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 tomato, chopped (or 1 tbsp tomato paste)
  • 1 liter (4 cups) beef broth or water
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

🥣 Instructions:

  1. Heat oil or lard in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. Add onions and cook until soft and slightly golden.
  3. Stir in garlic and paprika (remove from heat briefly to avoid burning paprika).
  4. Add the beef and cook until browned on all sides.
  5. Mix in caraway seeds, salt, and pepper.
  6. Add carrots, bell pepper, tomato, and potatoes.
  7. Pour in broth or water, enough to cover everything.
  8. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1.5–2 hours until meat is tender.
  9. Adjust seasoning and serve hot.
