
🇭🇺 Hungarian Cold Dough Nut Cookies (Old-Fashioned Recipe)
🧾 Ingredients:
- 300 g all-purpose flour
- 200 g butter (cold, cubed)
- 100 g powdered sugar
- 2 egg yolks
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 pinch salt
For the filling:
- 200 g ground walnuts
- 100 g sugar
- 50–80 ml milk
- Zest of 1 lemon
For coating:
- Powdered sugar

👩🍳 Instructions:
- Make the dough:
In a bowl, mix flour, powdered sugar, and salt. - Add cold butter and rub until crumbly.
- Add egg yolks and vanilla, then knead into a smooth dough.
- Chill dough:
Wrap and refrigerate for at least 1–2 hours (this is key for texture).
- Prepare filling:
Mix ground walnuts with sugar, lemon zest, and enough milk to form a soft paste.
- Shape cookies:
Roll out chilled dough thinly. - Cut into small rectangles or circles.
- Add a small amount of filling and roll or fold into crescents or small logs.
🔥 Bake:
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F)
- Bake for 12–15 minutes until lightly golden (do not overbake)
While still warm, dust generously with powdered sugar.
