Hungarian Chocolate Cake


Ingredients:

Cake:

  • 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup (75 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cups (300 g) sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup (240 ml) milk
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (240 ml) hot coffee or hot water

Chocolate Frosting:

  • 7 oz (200 g) dark chocolate
  • 1/2 cup (115 g) butter
  • 1 cup (120 g) powdered sugar
  • 2–3 tbsp milk

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and line two 8-inch (20 cm) cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, cocoa, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.
  4. Stir in hot coffee (batter will be thin).
  5. Divide into pans and bake 30–35 minutes. Cool completely.
  6. Melt chocolate and butter together. Cool slightly.
  7. Beat in powdered sugar and milk until smooth and spreadable.
  8. Fill and frost the cake. Let set before slicing.
