Hungarian Apple Pie – Classic Apple Pie

Ingredients:

For the dough:

  • 300 g all-purpose flour
  • 150 g butter, cold
  • 100 g sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • A pinch of salt

For the filling:

  • 1 kg apples, peeled and grated
  • 100 g sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp breadcrumbs (to absorb moisture)

For topping:

  • Powdered sugar

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. Add butter and rub until crumbly.
  3. Add the egg and knead into a smooth dough. Divide into two parts.
  4. Roll out one half and place it into the baking pan.
  5. Mix grated apples with sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Squeeze out excess juice if needed.
  6. Sprinkle breadcrumbs over the dough, then spread the apple filling evenly.
  7. Roll out the second half of dough and place it on top.
  8. Prick with a fork and bake for 35–40 minutes until golden.
  9. Let cool, dust with powdered sugar, slice, and serve.
