Hungarian apple cake (Almás pite)

Instructions

1. Make the dough

  1. Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, salt.
  2. Rub in cold butter until crumbly.
  3. Add egg + sour cream + vanilla → knead into soft dough.
  4. Divide into 2 equal portions.
  5. Roll each portion into a rectangle fitting your baking pan.

2. Prepare the filling

  1. Grate apples.
  2. Squeeze out excess juice.
  3. Mix with sugar + cinnamon + semolina.

3. Assemble

  1. Place first rolled dough sheet on a lined baking tray.
  2. Spread apple filling evenly.
  3. Cover with second dough sheet.
  4. Prick the top with a fork.

4. Bake

Bake at 180°C / 350°F for 30–35 minutes
or until lightly golden.


5. Finish

Let cool completely.
Dust generously with powdered sugar.
Cut into squares.
