Instructions
Prepare the Cake Layers:
- Preheat and Prepare Pans:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and line three round cake pans of different sizes (e.g., 6-inch, 8-inch, 10-inch).
- Make the Batter:
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Mix in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk.
- Color the Batter:
- Divide the batter into two bowls. Leave one plain for the white layers, and mix red food coloring into the other for the red layers.
- Bake the Cakes:
- Pour the batter into the prepared pans (adjust sizes for red and white layers as desired).
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool completely before decorating.
Make the Buttercream Frosting:
- In a large bowl, beat the butter until creamy.
- Gradually add powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing on low speed.
- Add vanilla extract and heavy cream, then beat on high speed until fluffy.
Assemble the Cake:
- Layer the Cakes:
- Place the largest red layer on a cake board and spread a thin layer of frosting on top.
- Add a white layer, and repeat until all layers are stacked.
- Crumb Coat:
- Apply a thin layer of frosting around the entire cake to seal in crumbs. Chill for 30 minutes.
- Cover with Fondant:
- Roll out the red and white fondant separately.
- Cover the top tier with white fondant, the middle tier with red, and alternate colors for the bottom tier.
- Add Fondant Drapes:
- Roll white fondant into long strips and gently drape them around the cake, securing them with edible glue.
- Decorate with Roses:
- Place red fondant roses where the drapes meet.
- Add rhinestone ribbons around each tier for sparkle.
Final Touches
- Dust edible glitter lightly over the cake for a glamorous finish.
- Chill the cake for 1-2 hours before serving.
Tips:
- Use a cake leveler for perfectly even layers.
- Add additional support (e.g., wooden dowels) if the cake is very tall.
