Fasírt (Hungarian Crispy Patties / Meatballs)

Ingredients (serves 4):

  • 500 g (1 lb) ground pork, beef, or a mix
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 slice of bread, soaked in milk and squeezed dry
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika (optional)
  • 100 g (¾ cup) breadcrumbs for coating
  • Oil for frying

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the mixture:
    • In a bowl, combine ground meat, onion, garlic, soaked bread, egg, salt, pepper, and paprika. Mix well.
  2. Shape the patties:
    • Form small, flat patties (like burgers).
  3. Coat and fry:
    • Lightly coat each patty with breadcrumbs.
    • Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry patties 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through.
