Ingredients:
- 2 tbsp lard or vegetable oil
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1–2 Hungarian smoked sausages (like kolbász), sliced
- 1 lb (450 g) sauerkraut, rinsed & chopped
- 1 carrot, diced
- 1 parsnip (optional), diced
- 1 tsp caraway seeds
- 1 tbsp sweet Hungarian paprika
- 6 cups (1.5 L) water or broth
- 2 bay leaves
- Salt & pepper, to taste
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 tbsp flour (for thickening, optional)
