Nokedli with Pörkölt (Hungarian Dumplings & Stew)

🥩 Pörkölt (Stew) Ingredients:

  • 800 g beef, pork, or chicken, cut into pieces
  • 2 large onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp oil or lard
  • 2 tbsp Hungarian sweet paprika
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • 1 green pepper, chopped
  • 250–400 ml water or broth
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

🍝 Nokedli Ingredients:

  • 300 g flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 150–180 ml water
  • 1 tsp salt

🔥 Instructions:

1. Make the Pörkölt:

  1. Heat oil in a pot and cook onions until golden.
  2. Remove from heat, stir in paprika quickly.
  3. Add meat and coat well.
  4. Add garlic, tomato, pepper, salt, and pepper.
  5. Pour in water or broth.
  6. Cover and simmer 1–2 hours until meat is tender and sauce thickens.

2. Make the Nokedli:

  1. Mix flour, eggs, salt, and water into a thick sticky batter.
  2. Bring a large pot of salted water to boil.
  3. Drop small pieces of dough into boiling water (with spoon or grater).
  4. Cook 2–4 minutes until they float.
  5. Drain and set aside.
