Mushroom Paprikash (Gombapaprikás)

Ingredients:

  • 500 g mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 tbsp oil or butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1–2 tsp sweet Hungarian paprika
  • 150–200 ml sour cream
  • 100 ml water or vegetable broth
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp flour (optional, for thickening)
  • Fresh parsley (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Heat oil or butter in a pan and sauté the onion until soft.
  2. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  3. Add sliced mushrooms and cook until they release and evaporate their liquid.
  4. Stir in paprika quickly (don’t let it burn).
  5. Add water or broth and simmer for 10–15 minutes.
  6. Season with salt and black pepper.
  7. Lower heat and stir in sour cream.
  8. If you want it thicker, mix flour with a little water and add it in.
  9. Cook for another 2–3 minutes, then remove from heat.
