Hungarian Walnut & Poppy Seed Rock (Diós–Mákos “Szikla” Süti) – Don’t Lose This Recipe!

Ingredients:

  • 500 g flour
  • 2 tbsp sour cream
  • 200 g fat (lard or butter) (“8 kg” seems like a typo)
  • 2 tbsp yeast (fresh or dry)
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 2 egg yolks
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2–3 tbsp sugar

Filling:

  • Ground walnuts
  • Ground poppy seeds
  • Sugar (to taste)
  • Milk (to make spreadable paste)

Instructions:

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm milk.
  2. Mix flour, fat, sour cream, egg yolks, salt, sugar, and yeast mixture into a soft dough.
  3. Let dough rise for about 1 hour.
  4. Divide dough into two parts and roll out.
  5. Spread walnut filling on one half and poppy seed filling on the other.
  6. Roll up and place on baking tray.
  7. Let rest for 15–20 minutes.
  8. Bake at 180°C until golden.
  9. Cool and slice before serving.
