Hungarian Szilvás Gombóc (Plum Dumplings)

Ingredients:

Dough:

  • 1 kg potatoes (boiled and mashed)
  • 250–300 g all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 pinch salt

Filling:

  • 10–12 plums (pitted)
  • Sugar (for filling)
  • Cinnamon (optional)

Coating:

  • 100 g breadcrumbs
  • 50 g butter
  • 2–3 tbsp sugar

Instructions:

  1. Prepare dough:
    Mix mashed potatoes with egg, salt, and flour to form a soft dough.
  2. Shape dumplings:
    Roll out dough and cut into squares. Place a plum in the center of each, add a little sugar (and cinnamon), then seal into balls.
  3. Cook:
    Boil dumplings in salted water. When they float to the top, cook for 2–3 more minutes.
  4. Prepare coating:
    Melt butter, add breadcrumbs, and toast until golden. Stir in sugar.
  5. Finish:
    Roll cooked dumplings in the sweet breadcrumb mixture.
