Hungarian Peach Cookies (Barack Süti)

Ingredients

Dough

  • 500 g flour
  • 200 g butter (softened)
  • 150 g powdered sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk

Filling

  • 200 g apricot jam
  • 100 g ground walnuts (optional)
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder (optional)

Decoration

  • Red food coloring or peach juice
  • Granulated sugar
  • Mint leaves (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C / 350°F.
  2. Mix butter and powdered sugar until creamy.
  3. Add eggs, vanilla, milk, flour, and baking powder to form a soft dough.
  4. Shape small balls and place on a baking tray.
  5. Bake 12–15 minutes until lightly golden.
  6. Once cooled, hollow the bottom slightly.
  7. Mix crumbs with jam and walnuts to make the filling.
  8. Fill two halves and stick them together to form a peach shape.
  9. Lightly dip in food coloring or juice, then roll in sugar.
  10. Decorate with a small mint leaf.
