Hungarian Túró Rudi (Homemade) 🇭🇺

Ingredients (8–10 bars)

Filling:

  • 500 g (2 cups) dry cottage cheese (Hungarian tĂşrĂł preferred)
  • 3–4 tbsp powdered sugar (to taste)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract or vanilla sugar
  • Zest of ½ lemon

Chocolate coating:

  • 200 g (7 oz) dark chocolate
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil or butter

Instructions

  1. Prepare filling:
    Blend or mash cottage cheese until smooth (traditional texture is creamy, not chunky).
    Mix in powdered sugar, vanilla, and lemon zest.
  2. Shape:
    Divide mixture and form into small bars (about finger-sized).
    Place on a parchment-lined tray.
  3. Freeze:
    Freeze 30–60 minutes until firm.
  4. Melt chocolate:
    Melt chocolate with coconut oil over a double boiler or microwave (gentle heat).
  5. Coat:
    Dip frozen bars into melted chocolate, fully covering.
    Return to parchment paper.
  6. Set:
    Refrigerate until chocolate hardens (about 15–20 minutes).
