Sizzling Chinese Pepper Steak with Onions

Ingredients (Serves 2–3)

  • 1 lb (450 g) flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ cup beef broth or water

Instructions

  1. Marinate beef:
In a bowl, combine sliced beef, 1 tbsp soy sauce, ½ tsp black pepper, and 1 tsp cornstarch. Let sit 10–15 minutes.
  2. Cook vegetables:
Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
Stir-fry onions and bell peppers 2–3 minutes until slightly tender. Remove and set aside.
  3. Cook beef:
Heat remaining oil in the skillet. Stir-fry beef 2–3 minutes until browned but not fully cooked.
  4. Combine:
Return vegetables to the skillet. Add garlic, remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, beef broth, and 1 tsp cornstarch (mixed with a little water to thicken).
  5. Sauté:
Stir-fry 2–3 minutes until sauce thickens and beef is cooked through.
  6. Serve:
Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
