
Ingredients
- 700 g pork shoulder or beef, cubed
- 2 tbsp oil or lard
- 2 large onions, chopped
- 2 tbsp sweet Hungarian paprika
- 1 tsp caraway seeds
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 500 g white cabbage, shredded
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped (optional)
- Salt & black pepper, to taste
- 750 ml water or broth
- 150 ml sour cream (optional, for serving)
Instructions
- Heat oil/lard in a pot. Sauté onions until golden.
- Remove from heat, stir in paprika.
- Add meat, garlic, caraway, salt, and pepper. Brown lightly.
- Stir in tomato paste and bell pepper.
- Add cabbage and water/broth.
- Cover and simmer 1½–2 hours until meat is tender.
- Adjust seasoning and serve hot.
