A true Hungarian comfort dish—simple, hearty, and full of paprika flavor. Paprikás krumpli is an everyday classic made with potatoes, onions, paprika, and sausage.


🥔 Ingredients

  • 2 lbs (900 g) potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 2 tbsp oil or lard
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp sweet Hungarian paprika
  • 8 oz (225 g) Hungarian sausage (kolbász), sliced
  • 1 tsp salt (or to taste)
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 2 cups water or broth
  • Optional: pinch of hot paprika

🍲 Instructions

  1. Heat oil or lard in a pot over medium heat.
  2. Add onion and cook until soft and lightly golden.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in paprika (do not burn).
  4. Add sausage and stir briefly.
  5. Add potatoes, salt, pepper, and water/broth.
  6. Bring to a gentle boil, then simmer uncovered 25–30 minutes, until potatoes are tender and sauce is thick.
