🛒 Ingredients

Soup Base

  • 2 tbsp oil or lard
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp Hungarian sweet paprika
  • 5 cups water or light broth
  • Salt & black pepper, to taste
  • 2 large eggs

Potato Dumplings

  • 2 medium potatoes, peeled & grated (or mashed)
  • 1 large egg
  • 3–4 tbsp all-purpose flour (as needed)
  • Salt, to taste

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Soup Base

  1. Heat oil or lard in a pot.
  2. Sauté onion until soft (not browned).
  3. Remove from heat, stir in paprika.
  4. Add water/broth, salt, and pepper.
  5. Bring to a gentle simmer.

2️⃣ Potato Dumplings

  1. Mix grated potato, egg, flour, and salt into a soft dough.
  2. Using two teaspoons, form small dumplings.

3️⃣ Cook

  1. Drop dumplings into gently simmering soup.
  2. Cook 8–10 minutes until dumplings float and are tender.
  3. Lightly beat eggs and slowly drizzle into soup while stirring gently to form ribbons.
  4. Simmer 1–2 minutes more (do not boil hard).

🍽️ Serve

  • Hot, with fresh bread
