Ingredients (makes about 6–8 muffins)

- ½ cup milk
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
- ½ lb (225 g) cooked breakfast sausage, crumbled
- 2 tbsp butter or oil (for greasing)
- Maple syrup for serving
