π©βπ³ Instructions:
- Freeze the cheese sticks:
- Place string cheese sticks on a plate or tray and freeze for at least 30 minutes (up to 2 hours). This prevents them from melting too fast when fried.
- Set up your breading station:
- In three separate shallow bowls:
- Bowl 1: Flour (seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic powder)
- Bowl 2: Beaten eggs
- Bowl 3: Breadcrumbs mixed with dried parsley
- Bread the cheese sticks:
- Take one frozen cheese stick.
- Dredge in flour, shaking off excess.
- Dip in egg, letting excess drip off.
- Roll in breadcrumbs until fully coated.
- Place on a clean plate or tray.
- Repeat with remaining cheese sticks.
- Heat the oil:
- In a deep pot or Dutch oven, heat oil to 350β375Β°F (175β190Β°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.
- Tip: If you donβt have a thermometer, test by dropping a small piece of bread β it should sizzle and float immediately.
- Fry the cheese sticks:
- Carefully lower 3β4 breaded sticks into the hot oil using tongs or a slotted spoon.
- Fry for 30β45 seconds per side, until golden brown and crispy.
- Donβt overcrowd the pot β fry in batches.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a wire rack or paper towels.
- Serve immediately:
- Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce β marinara is classic!
- Best eaten right away while the cheese is still molten and the coating is crispy.
π‘ Tips:
- No deep fryer? You can air-fry them! Spray breaded sticks with oil and air-fry at 400Β°F for 6β8 minutes, flipping halfway.
- Gluten-free? Use gluten-free flour and breadcrumbs.
- Extra cheesy? Double-dip in egg and breadcrumbs for an even thicker crust.
- Make ahead: Bread the cheese sticks and freeze them uncooked. Fry straight from frozen β add 10β15 seconds to cooking time.
These homemade cheese sticks are way better than store-bought β crispy, cheesy, and totally customizable. Perfect for sharingβ¦ if you can resist eating them all yourself! π
Let me know if youβd like a baked version or one with different cheeses (like cheddar or pepper jack)!
