👩🍳 Instructions:
- Prepare the starter (pre-ferment):
In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, warm milk, sugar, dry yeast, and 3 tablespoons of flour. Mix thoroughly to remove any lumps.
Cover the bowl with a kitchen towel and let it rest for 15 minutes in a warm spot. It should become foamy and bubbly—this means your yeast is active! - Make the dough:
Once the starter is ready, add:- The oil
- Gradually add the remaining flour (start with about 4 cups) and salt
Knead the dough by hand or with a mixer until it’s smooth, soft, and slightly sticky. Add a bit more flour if needed, but don’t overdo it—soft dough = soft bread.
- First rise (proofing):
Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 45–60 minutes, or until doubled in size. - Shape the bread:
After the first rise, punch down the dough.
Divide it into desired portions (e.g., 2 loaves, rolls, or shape it into one big round loaf).
Place on a parchment-lined or greased baking tray. - Second rise:
Cover shaped dough and let rise again for 20–30 minutes. - Bake:
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
Optional: Brush the tops with milk, egg wash, or oil for color and shine.
Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped. - Finishing touch:
Brush the hot bread with melted butter or oil right after baking for extra softness and flavor.
Let it cool slightly before slicing.
