🍞 Hungarian Farmers Bread (Parasztkenyér)

Ingredients:

  • 500 g bread flour
  • 7 g active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1½ tsp salt
  • 300 ml warm water
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in the warm water. Let stand for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture and oil to the flour and mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and shape it into a round loaf.
  7. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat the oven to 220°C (425°F).
  9. Score the top of the loaf with a sharp knife.
  10. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  11. Let cool on a wire rack before slicing.
