
🛒 Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons oil or lard
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 250–300 g (9–10 oz) smoked sausage, sliced
- 1 teaspoon Hungarian sweet paprika
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
- 4–5 medium potatoes, peeled and diced
- 1 tomato, chopped (or ½ cup canned tomatoes)
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste (optional)
- 800 ml (3–3½ cups) water or broth
- 1 bay leaf
- Salt and pepper to taste
Optional:
- ½ teaspoon caraway seeds
- Pinch of hot paprika for heat

👩🍳 Instructions:
- Sauté the onion:
Heat oil in a large pot. Cook chopped onion until soft and lightly golden. Add garlic and cook briefly. - Brown the sausage:
Add sliced smoked sausage and cook for a few minutes to release its flavor. - Add paprika:
Remove from heat and stir in paprika to avoid burning. - Build the stew:
Add potatoes, tomato, bell pepper, tomato paste, bay leaf, and caraway seeds if using. - Simmer:
Pour in water or broth, bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 25–30 minutes until potatoes are tender. - Season:
Add salt, pepper, and optional hot paprika to taste. - Serve:
Serve hot with fresh bread.
