🇭🇺 Hungarian Cabbage Noodles (Káposztás Tészta)

🧾 Ingredients

  • 300 g egg noodles (wide noodles or pasta)
  • 1 small head cabbage (about 700 g), grated
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil or lard
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • Salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Cook the noodles according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  2. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add the sugar and cook until lightly caramelized.
  4. Stir in the onion and cook until softened.
  5. Add the grated cabbage and a pinch of salt.
  6. Cook for 25–30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is deeply golden and caramelized.
  7. Season generously with black pepper and additional salt if needed.
  8. Add the cooked noodles and toss well to combine.
