🇭🇺 Brown Butter Hungarian Poppy Seed Strudel

Ingredients:

  • 1 pack phyllo dough (thawed)
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 ½ cups ground poppy seeds
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tbsp lemon zest
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions:

  1. Melt butter in a pan and cook until golden brown (nutty aroma). Set aside.
  2. In a saucepan, combine poppy seeds, sugar, milk, lemon zest, and vanilla. Cook until thick, then cool.
  3. Lay out one sheet of phyllo, brush with brown butter. Repeat with 4–5 layers.
  4. Spread filling along one edge.
  5. Roll tightly into a log.
  6. Place on baking tray and brush top with more brown butter.
  7. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 25–30 minutes until golden and crisp.
  8. Cool slightly and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
