
Instructions
- Prepare the Mashed Potatoes:
- Boil the potatoes in salted water until fork-tender (about 15–20 minutes).
- Drain and mash with milk, butter, and cheese (if using). Season with salt and pepper to taste. Set aside.
- Cook the Meat Filling:
- In a large skillet, cook the ground meat over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat.
- Add the diced onion and garlic. Sauté until softened (about 3–4 minutes).
- Stir in the mixed vegetables, tomato sauce, broth, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, thyme, salt, and pepper. Let the mixture simmer for 5–7 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Assemble the Casserole:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Spread the meat filling evenly in the bottom of a greased 9×13-inch casserole dish.
- Spoon the mashed potatoes over the meat layer, spreading evenly with a spatula.
- Add the Topping:
- Sprinkle shredded cheese over the top.
- Bake:
- Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the top is golden.
- Garnish with chopped parsley before serving, if desired.
