1. Prepare the Dough
- In a bowl, mix butter and cream cheese until smooth.
- Add flour and salt, mix to form a soft dough.
- Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (or overnight).
2. Make the Filling
- Heat milk and sugar in a saucepan.
- Stir in ground walnuts, vanilla, and lemon zest.
- Cook until thick, then let cool completely.
3. Shape the Cookies
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Roll out dough on a floured surface to about 3 mm thickness.
- Cut into small squares (about 5×5 cm).
- Place a small amount of filling on each square.
- Roll or shape into crescents (kifli shape).
4. Bake
- Place on a lined baking sheet and bake for 15–20 minutes until lightly golden.
5. Finish
- While still warm, dust generously with powdered sugar.

- You can substitute walnut filling with apricot jam or poppy seed filling.
- Keep cookies small for the best texture.
- Store in an airtight container—they stay soft for days.
