1. Cook the noodles
- Boil salted water and cook noodles until al dente.
- Drain and set aside.
2. Caramelize the cabbage & onions
- In a large skillet, heat butter or oil over medium heat.
- Add onions and sauté until soft and slightly golden (5 minutes).
- Add cabbage, sugar, salt, and pepper.
- Cook over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until cabbage is golden and caramelized (15–20 minutes).
3. Combine with noodles
- Add cooked noodles to the skillet with caramelized cabbage and onions.
- Toss gently to combine.
- Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
4. Serve
- Serve hot, optionally with a dollop of sour cream on top.
- Can be a main dish or a side to Hungarian stews and meat dishes.
