Ingredients
Soup
- 1 lb (450 g) beef stew meat, cubed
- 1 cup pearl barley
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 carrots, diced
- 2 celery stalks, diced
- 6 cups beef broth
- 1 tsp sweet Hungarian paprika
- Salt & black pepper, to taste
- 1–2 tbsp oil
Cheesy Paprika Bread
- 1 small baguette or 1 loaf of crusty bread
- ½ cup shredded cheddar or Hungarian Trappista cheese
- 1–2 tsp paprika
- 2 tbsp butter, melted
Instructions
- Make Soup
- Heat oil in a pot and brown beef cubes.
- Add onion and garlic, sauté until soft.
- Stir in paprika, then add carrots, celery, barley, and beef broth.
- Simmer 45–60 minutes until beef and barley are tender. Season with salt and pepper.
- Prepare Cheesy Paprika Bread
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice bread and place on a baking sheet.
- Mix butter, cheese, and paprika. Spread over bread slices.
- Bake 10–12 minutes until cheese is melted and golden.
- Serve
- Ladle soup into bowls and serve with warm cheesy paprika bread on the side.
