- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 ½ tbsp sweet Hungarian paprika
- 1 tsp caraway seeds (optional)
- 1 tomato, chopped (or ½ cup canned diced tomatoes)
- 1 small bell pepper, chopped
- 3 cups vegetable or chicken broth
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 1 smoked sausage, sliced (optional but traditional)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
