Beef Mechado (Filipino Recipe)
Ingredients
- 1 kg beef chuck or brisket, sliced
- 3 tbsp oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups tomato sauce
- 1 cup beef broth or water
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp calamansi or lemon juice
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 tsp sugar (optional)
- 2 potatoes, cubed
- 1 carrot, sliced
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pot. Sauté onion and garlic until fragrant.
- Add beef, season with pepper, cook until lightly browned.
- Pour in tomato sauce, soy sauce, calamansi/lemon juice, bay leaves, and broth.
- Bring to a boil, cover, and simmer 1–1½ hours until beef is tender.
- Add potatoes and carrots. Cook 10–15 minutes until vegetables are soft.
- Season with salt and sugar if needed.
- Serve hot with steamed rice.
