Házi Kürtőskalács (Homemade Hungarian Chimney Cake)

Ingredients:

  • 500 g all-purpose flour
  • 7 g dry yeast
  • 250 ml warm milk
  • 60 g sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 60 g butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Coating:

  • 100 g sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon (optional)
  • Melted butter for brushing

Instructions:

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm milk with a little sugar. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, remaining sugar, and salt.
  3. Add yeast mixture, egg yolks, melted butter, and vanilla.
  4. Knead into a smooth dough. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.
  5. Roll dough out and cut into long strips.
  6. Wrap strips around greased chimney molds or a rolling pin.
  7. Brush with melted butter and roll in sugar (and cinnamon if using).
  8. Bake at 190°C (375°F) for 15–20 minutes, turning until golden and caramelized.
  9. Remove carefully and roll again in sugar while warm.
