- 500–700 g beef (stew meat), cubed
- 2 large onions, chopped
- 2–3 tbsp oil or lard
- 2 tbsp sweet paprika
- 1 tsp hot paprika (optional)
- 2–3 cloves garlic
- 2 carrots, sliced
- 1 parsley root (optional)
- 2 potatoes, diced
- 1 green pepper
- 1 tomato
- 1 tsp caraway seeds
- Salt and black pepper
- 1.5–2 liters water or broth

Sweet Hungarian Style
- Cook onion in oil until soft and golden.
- Remove from heat, add paprika, stir quickly.
- Add beef and brown it well.
- Add garlic, caraway seeds, pepper, tomato, salt, and black pepper.
- Pour in water or broth and simmer until meat is tender.
- Add carrots, parsley root, and potatoes.
- Cook until vegetables are soft.
- Adjust seasoning and serve hot, usually with bread.
