🧾 Ingredients:

For the layers:

  • 2 sheets puff pastry

For the custard filling:

  • 1 liter milk
  • 6 egg yolks
  • 150 g sugar
  • 80 g cornstarch
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the meringue layer (optional but traditional):

  • 6 egg whites
  • 100 g sugar

For topping:

  • Powdered sugar

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. Bake pastry:
    Roll out puff pastry sheets and bake separately at 180°C (350°F) for 15–20 minutes until golden. Let cool.

  1. Make custard:
    Heat milk with vanilla until warm.
  2. In a bowl, whisk egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch.
  3. Slowly add warm milk while whisking, then return to low heat.
  4. Cook, stirring constantly, until thick and smooth. Do not boil.

  1. Prepare meringue (optional):
    Beat egg whites until foamy.
  2. Gradually add sugar and beat until stiff peaks form.

  1. Combine:
    Fold meringue gently into warm custard for a lighter texture.

  1. Assemble:
    Place one pastry sheet in a tray.
  2. Spread custard evenly over it.
  3. Top with second pastry sheet (you can pre-cut it for easier slicing).

  1. Chill:
    Refrigerate for at least 3–4 hours until set.

  1. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
