Dobos Torte (Hungarian Layered Caramel Cake) 🇭🇺

📝 Ingredients:

For the sponge layers:

  • 6 large eggs, separated
  • 150 g (¾ cup) sugar
  • 120 g (1 cup) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

For the chocolate buttercream:

  • 200 g (7 oz) butter, softened
  • 150 g (5 oz) dark chocolate, melted
  • 100 g (½ cup) powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the caramel topping:

  • 150 g (¾ cup) sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice or water

🥣 Instructions:

1. Make the sponge layers:

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Beat egg whites with a pinch of salt until stiff peaks form.
  3. In another bowl, beat egg yolks with sugar until pale and creamy.
  4. Add vanilla, then gently fold in flour.
  5. Fold in egg whites carefully.
  6. Spread thin layers (6–8 circles) on parchment paper.
  7. Bake each layer for 5–8 minutes until lightly golden. Let cool.
