Hungarian Walnut Torte (Diós Torta) Recipe

Ingredients

Cake

  • 6 eggs (separated)
  • 150 g sugar
  • 200 g ground walnuts
  • 50 g all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • pinch of salt

Cream

  • 250 g butter (soft)
  • 120 g powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 100 g ground walnuts
  • 2 tbsp milk

Instructions

  1. Beat egg whites with salt until stiff peaks form.
  2. In another bowl beat egg yolks with sugar and vanilla until creamy.
  3. Add ground walnuts, flour, and baking powder to the yolk mixture.
  4. Gently fold in the egg whites.
  5. Pour batter into a greased cake pan.
  6. Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 30–35 minutes.
  7. For the cream, beat butter with powdered sugar and vanilla.
  8. Add ground walnuts and milk, mix until smooth.
  9. Spread cream over the cooled cake and decorate as desired.
